Kolkatta:

January 11th, 2005

That's about it from India. Since our train was so late toady, our only views of Kolkatta (Calcutta) came from the car ride to the hotel. It almost seems like New York City circa 1900. It is not like any of the other Indian cities we have been to - especially the roads, where there actually are, well, roads!

We fly to Bangkok tomorrow (Wednesday) morning and will be there for about a week.

Six weeks in India has been both fascinating and frustrating. I feel like we have done a ton but that there is also so much more to see. However, I don't think I could last anymore than 6 weeks here due to the disorganization and such. Even Indians that you meet who live abroad can't handle the chaos when they return - we've had many a conversation about that! However, I would love to return for another 6-week stint down the road.

If you do plan to come to India, I hope these e-mails have helped give you some ideas. One final piece of advice - do not use a Hotmail account when you travel here. I'd say maybe 1 in 10 times this trip have we actually been able to access our e-mail there. Try something else like the new gmail accounts.

That's it, that's all.
